Oak Brook, Illinois-based Reed Business Information Hosts a ``Dunk Tank Spectacular'' to Raise Funds for Chicago's William Penn School

Reed Business Information (RBI), a business-to-business information and publishing company, is hosting a "Dunk Tank Spectacular” on Friday, August 17, at its Oak Brook office located at 2000 Clearwater Drive from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Local managers will be dunked, and the funds raised from this event will benefit Chicago’s William Penn School. The event is part of the company’s Reed Elsevier (RE) Cares initiative, which encourages employees to volunteer in their local communities. In Oak Brook, RBI’s employees focus their volunteer efforts on education and development initiatives for young people. The first Dunk Tank Spectacular event was held in September, 2006, to raise funds for William Penn School, which is in great need of equipment and resources ranging from basic classroom supplies to computers to transportation. "The contributions from Reed to our school have increased our students’ self esteem, and they feel like they have a community family that cares about them outside of their families,” says Patricia Kent, recently retired Principal of William Penn Elementary School. She adds that, "the funds donated from the 2006 event were used to provide field trip buses for many students who would otherwise not have been able to attend.” This year, in hopes of greatly increasing the funds raised, the "Dunk Tank Spectacular” is being streamed via the company’s intranet and employees from across the company are invited to make donations online and to "sponsor” a dunk of the manager of their choice. Raffle prizes are also being offered, thanks to contributions from several Chicago sport teams and venues. The goal of this year’s event is to raise at least $5,000, which is more than double the contributions raised in 2006.
